VIENNA, VA —Longtime Vienna resident Laura Goyer has opened a photography studio to serve local families and professionals at 112 Courthouse Road SW. The Town of Vienna will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday, June 20 from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
“I wanted to create a dedicated space where people could both feel and see my my desire to combine photography and community” she said. “And the Vienna community, as always has been wonderfully supportive.”
Goyer was formerly a medical professional before leaving to start her own photography business out of her home. She worked as a pediatric physicians assistant at Prince George’s Hospital Center and Fairfax Hospital and has pursued photography on the side. But the idea especially caught on when she agreed to photograph newborns for a few friends. She then realized she could dedicate more time to this work, as caring for many patients limited interactions with each one.
“People are always surprised that I could leave medicine for photography,” she said. “They have so much in common for me, medicine is science, light is science and both fields excel with authentic human connection.”
For Goyer, making this human connection is an important first step in taking a person’s photo. She spends time beforehand with clients to find out their hopes, dreams, worries, concerns and more. In addition, she can provide feedback on clothing and location, as well as tips on decorating rooms with the photographs.
Goyer has been an active member of the Vienna Elementary School Parent Teacher Association and served as president for two years.
