Silvertips win, T-birds lose in WHL play

Dominic Zwerger has a goal and three assists to lead Everett.

Dominic Zwerger had a goal and three assists as the Everett Silvertips defeated the Portland Winterhawks 4-1 Friday night at Xfinity Arena in Everett.

Patrick Bajkov had a goal and two assists for the division-leading Silvertips (37-12-8-2), who have won six straight games. Carter Hart made 42 saves.

Meanwhile, the host Tri-City Americans blasted the Seattle Thunderbirds 7-3. Jarret Tyszka, Keegan Kolesar and Austin Strand scored for the second-place T-birds (38-18-3-2).


No. 10 Washington (3-2) scored 11 runs in the first four innings, which proved to be plenty for starter Noah Bremer as he threw six shutout innings and the Huskies routed host Saint Mary’s 11-1.

The Huskies pounded 14 hits. MJ Hubbs paced UW with three hits and four runs batted in.

Kyle London (2 for 4), Willie MacIver (2 for 4, three runs) and John Naff (2 for 3) also had multihit games for UW.

Bremer picked up his first win of the season. He struck out eight and allowed just three hits, but he did walk four batters.

• Host Minnesota (2-1) defeated Seattle University13-4. Jeffrey Morgan drove in two runs for the Redhawks (2-3).

• After being held scoreless through the first eight innings, Gonzaga (3-2) scored one run in the ninth and one more in the 10th for a 2-1 win at UCLA (2-2).


No. 8 Washington went into the seventh inning tied with Ohio State (5-4), but came out on top after scoring eight runs in the final inning for an 11-4 win in their first game of the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic in Palm Springs, Calif.

In their second game, the Huskies (8-2) lost 9-5 to Missouri.

Morganne Flores had a three-run homer and four RBI on the day for UW. Taylor Van Zee also had four RBI. Sis Bates had four hits, two runs and two RBI. Ali Aguilar had three hits and scored three runs.
