Shepshed knitting factory on sale for £2m

THE Karl Meyer knitting machine factory in Shepshed is being sold for £2m.

The German textile machinery maker is selling the Kings Road property as part of its plans to scale back its UK operations.

The company, which used to employ 33 people at its UK site in Kings Road, Shepshed, has reduced its number of workers to seven in the last few years.

Technical director Alan Garrity said: “We are in the process of changing the business and some machinery sales will go out to Hong Kong.

“We will retain a sales office in the UK and we will still be in the Midlands, but we are looking for much smaller premises.”

The purpose-built, modern industrial complex, which is being marketed by Loughborough based property consultants Mather Jamie, features steel portal frame manufacturing accommodation, warehousing space, loading yard and a mezzanine area, plus a two storey office building with a small residential flat.

The warehouse and loading yard are also equipped with four 12.5 tonne cranes, for the loading and unloading of heavy goods.

Alex Reid, director of Mather Jamie, said the industrial and office space would suit a small to medium-sized engineering or manufacturing firm.

He said: “This substantial, purpose-built industrial complex is very well located, being less than a mile from J23 of the M1, and has two access points onto Kings Road and Old Station Close, making it perfect for a busy manufacturing or engineering company with high output.”
