PASTOR’S CORNER: Our culture needs real men | Columnists

There are a lot of things going on in our culture today that are carrying us further away from God and the things that our forefathers stood for and established our nation upon. One of these cultural dysfunctions that has had major negative impacts is the degradation of men. Our culture, in general, has degraded and downplayed the importance of the role of men in society and in the family. The media and entertainment industry has played a big role in this process with the way they portray men in various settings. Our society is in desperate need of some real men. 

Men were created and called to be leaders. This in no way downplays the role or worth of women because men cannot do it on their own. Our society and our homes have survived on the shoulders of the women because the men have not been performing their God-given roles. The role of women and how vitally important they are to every aspect of our community is a very important topic for another day. This article is aimed at the role of men and what it takes to be a real man. 

First of all, real men reject passivity. Romans 12:2 says, “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” Real men reject the natural flow of society when it is headed down the wrong path. Unfortunately, many men today just passively sit on the sidelines as their own families are being swept away by the culture. There is a great need for men of conviction who are willing to stand upon those convictions even when it means standing alone.

Secondly, real men accept responsibility. 1 Corinthians 16:13 says, “Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong.” We live in a society that loves to shift the blame. Real men stand in the gap and accept the responsibility for…
