On March 2, more than 300 pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and students affiliated with the Pharmacy Society of Wisconsin will gather at Wisconsin’s State Capitol for the organization’s annual Legislative Day to interact with legislative representatives about important regulatory and statutory issues. The event is a chance for pharmacists from all corners of Wisconsin to connect with one another and, perhaps most importantly, provides the opportunity to highlight the key role pharmacists play as an integral member of a patient’s health care team.
Pharmacists are among the most accessible and consistently seen care providers. Everywhere patients use medications, pharmacists can make a difference in care: whether a patient’s medications are prescribed after seeing providers at a clinic visit, administered during a hospital stay or used as part of a complex regimen in a long-term care facility. While care needs may change, and while patients may move between these settings, the important relationship pharmacists build with their patients remains a constant.
