Lockdown lifted at Oklahoma Wesleyan University; no active shooter on campus, say police

BARTLESVILLE, Okla. — A lockdown at Oklahoma Wesleyan University in Bartlesville has been lifted.

The University sent out a notification to students Friday that read, “We are under a lockdown. Leave campus or lock yourself now. This I said not a drill [sic].”

A later notification was sent to students saying, “They got him. Feel free to leave buildings. This is official clear [sic].”

Police in Bartlesville now say there was no shooter on campus. Officials say the incident stemmed from a threat made several days ago when someone allegedly posted an image with a weapon on Snapchat saying they were going to hurt someone.

A student at the local high school saw the Snapchat and notified the college, which immediately went on lockdown.

Police were able to track down the teen suspect and apprehend him within a short amount of time. The lockdown lasted a total of 26 minuted.

The school is located on the 2200 block of Silver Lake Road in Bartlesville.
