Friday Regional Recap
Maryland def. Pennsylvania, 14-4
After falling behind 3-0 through two innings, Maryland scored 14 unanswered runs to earn a mercy-rule victory over Pennsylvania.
Pennsylvania struck first in the bottom of the first on Cam Paquette’s two-run single. Jake Voynar followed that up with an RBI double in the second inning to give the kids from Upper Providence Little League a 3-0 advantage.
Maryland was able to tie the game in the third inning with RBI singles from Josh Skowronski and Joey McMannis. The fourth inning is when everything turned, as Maryland pushed across 11 runs on six walks, two batters being hit by a pitch and a grand slam from Logan Simanski.
Pennsylvania did push across one run in the bottom of the fourth inning, but it wasn’t enough to keep the game going.
Maryland moves on to play New Jersey in the Mid-Atlantic title game. New Jersey earned its spot in the championship game by defeating Washington D.C., New York and Pennsylvania by a combined score of 35-12.
