HE’S known as the Olympic hero and he’s back in the WWE.
While Kurt Angle is yet to pull his famed red, white and blue tights back on, it’s just a matter of time before we see him pulling out the ‘Angle Slam’ inside the squared circle.
But Angle says it’s a waiting game.
While he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame earlier this year, the Olympic golden medallist has fought a dark and desperate battle with addiction.
At his highest, he is an Olympian and multi-time world wrestling champion.
At his lowest he had five DUI’s and was abusing alcohol and prescription drugs before checking into rehab.
It’s been 11 years since Angle last wrestled inside a WWE ring but in a wide ranging interview with foxsports.com.au, Angle admits he’s eyeing a return to the squared circle.
“I’m doing great,” Angle said.
“I feel great. When you’re an athlete the way I’ve been my entire life — you want to get into the ring but I have to be patient and see how it pans out.”
Back on television as the general manager of Raw, part of Angle’s return involves being subjected to the WWE’s wellness test.
“I haven’t taken the physical to wrestle but the drug testing — I’m part of that,” Angle said.
“I’m a talent on TV. Although they don’t treat me as a wrestler, if you’re a talent, you’re involved in everything.
“You can get drug tested at any point in time.”
He already has several opponents in mind but first he must prove to Vince McMahon, chairman and CEO of WWE, that he can be trusted.
When Angle left the company in 2006, he and McMahon had a bitter falling out.
They didn’t speak for 11 years but time heals all wounds.
This year he was indicted into the WWE Hall of Fame and with that he returned to the box.
