Mr. Kimmel saluted the disappointed members of the “La La Land” team for helping him to make an awkward situation bearable.
“The producers of ‘La La Land’ were very gracious, which they did not have to be, onstage and off. They were very nice. They handled it well. It was a very amicable custody arrangement — they didn’t ask for visitation or anything.”
Jon Stewart to Press: Time to Get Over ‘Donny’
Jon Stewart appeared on “The Late Show” last night to join Stephen Colbert in challenging President Trump. “Trump lies more in one press conference than CNN does in a year — and that’s coming from a guy who hates CNN,” Mr. Stewart said near the top of the act.
“He constantly says the phrase ‘believe me,’” he added. “Nobody says ‘believe me’ unless they are lying.”
But when Mr. Colbert asked how he felt about Mr. Trump’s decision to ban certain news outlets, including The Times, from a briefing, Mr. Stewart — as he did so often as host of “The Daily Show” — turned his critique on the press.
“Hey, media. So I heard Donald Trump broke up with you. Stings a little, doesn’t it? You finally thought you’d met your match. A blabbermouth who’s as thin-skinned and narcissistic as you are. [laughs] Well, now it’s over. Well, good riddance, I say. Kick him to the curb! It is time for you to get your groove back, media. Because let’s face facts, you kind of let yourself go a little bit for these past few years. You put on a few pundits. Obsessing, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, about this one guy. ‘What’s Donny up to? Did he say anything about us? You think he’s gonna come on our show? Do you think he even likes us?
