The Licking County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a Pataskala car lot after customers reported buying cars that were later repossessed, sometimes after having been paid for in full.
Remak Auto Sales was located at 13375 National Rd SW. It appears to be closed and the company’s website has been taken down.
One customer reached out to Six On Your Side after buying a 2006 Ford Fusion from Remak in May. She asked that we not identify her. She said she bought the car for $2,200, paid $1,800 in cash, and agreed to pay the remaining $599 within 30 days.
“And then on the morning of June 13th, I wake up and my car is gone. So, I thought initially someone stole my vehicle. Being repossessed was the last thing I ever thought of,” she said.
She said she immediately tried to reach Remak. “I’m calling them, I’m texting from 8 o’clock in the morning until about 1 o’clock in the afternoon,” she said.
After doing her own detective work, she tracked the repo-men to an auto auction in Crooksville where Remak got the cars it sold. The auction told her, and confirmed to Six On Your Side, that they repossessed the cars because Remak never paid for them.
When ABC 6 visited the car lot, we found it empty, except for one loan car with a flat tire still for sale. The sign in the window of the office read “open” but the doors were locked.
Remak’s owner is named Koco Jovanovski. ABC 6/FOX 28 has been unable to reach him.
While ABC 6/FOX 28 was at Remak, several customers arrived.
Brian Felix said he routinely bought cars from Remak to resell at his own lot.
“I was coming to buy cars right now from them,” he said. “I’m like, ‘why is this place empty? And he’s not picking up my phone calls. He usually picks up.”
