Nikon to help fight diabetes-related eye diseases with optical engineering expertise – SlashGear

Nikon has announced it’s teaming up with Verily, the company previously known as Google Life Sciences, to help improve the detection of diabetes-related eye diseases — diabetic retinopathy and macular edema, two of the leading causes of adult blindness. The camera giant will contribute its imaging technology to Verily’s machine learning, with a goal of increasing early detection, giving patients enough time to get to a doctor before losing all eyesight. China to ban ivory trade by end of 2017

China has a stockpile of ivory purchased with CITES approval in 2008, which it releases for sale with certification China will ban all domestic ivory trade and processing by the end of 2017, state media reported Friday, a move hailed by activists as a “game changer” for African elephants. Value of typical UK home has grown £9k this year, says Nationwide

East Anglia is the region of the UK that has seen the biggest house price growth of 2017 with the typical home adding 10.1 per cent, according to data from a leading lender. Nationwide said the the average property in the area is now worth £218,544 after a rate of gains that was more than twice the national average this year. The building society said house price growth in 2016 has been steady but unspectacular: across the UK as a whole, property values have risen 4.5 per cent over the year, meaning the typical home now sits at £205,898.
